As Wine Advocate explains, "Emilio Hidalgo founded his bodega in the center of Jerez in 1874, where it is still managed by the fifth generation of the family. They have an impressive range of wines, with some of the original soleras containing wines over 100 years old." This is a wonderfully rich - but bone dry - Oloroso that spends one year under flor before aging a total of 12 years in cask. Pretty citrus-like fruit with notes of green tea, walnut and dry caramel and a finish that sails on and on.
"Notes of anise and clove, accenting its salinity. Aromas and flavors of iodine, salt and the signature earthy dampness of Hidalgo's very old soleras. Firm on the palate, with sharp acidity that penetrates the depths of the wine's flavors, this would be delicious with clams sautéed in olive oil and garlic." Wine & Spirits 94 points
