As the winery writes, "Andrew Murray has been singularly and nearly maniacally focused on crafting Syrah for 25 years." His "Everyday" (in French Syrah “Tous les Jours”) Syrah from Santa Ynez gives you a good idea of how well he's succeeding! It's 100% destemmed and aged 9 months in used French oak to round the tannins and let the ripe, dark, fruit shine through.
It opens with big aromas of blackberries, black cherry, ink, spice and hints of roasted meat and fresh violets. On the palate if flows with a silky smooth, juicy, feel and delivers big flavors of super-ripe raspberry, blackberry, spice and more. As it opens, the roasted meat savory character of Syrah shows a bit more, but this is really all about the ripe fruit, silky mouth feel, and long, dark-berried, finish. Big enough for anything grilled or roasted, we especially love how poised and pure it feels. Feel free to give it a chill to enjoy outdoors on a sunny summer day!
For You If: You love the blend of ripe black fruit and savory earth/meat aromas and flavors California Syrah does so well; you’re looking for a wine that will roll from garden party to cookout with aplomb.
Not For You If: You’re after a full-throttle, Shiraz-styled, Syrah or something from the Northern Rhone – this is in between.
