Morgan Twain-Peterson crafts this bold, gutsy, California red from a mixture of vines growing in some of the country's most famed old-vine sites. The base is Bedrock Vineyard (planted 1888), Nervo (1896), and Sodini (1905) in Sonoma County along with Evangelho (1890s) and Katushas’ (1915), with the rest coming from Teldeschi, Pagani, Old Hill, and Enz Vineyard. Because many of these vineyards were planted to "mixed blacks" assortments, this ends up being around 76% Zinfandel with the rest a mis-mash of old vine Petite Sirah, Carignan and Alicante Bouschet plus whatever other varietals late 19th and early 20th Century vine growers happened to plant. The result is a big, bold wine that somehow holds on to captivating finesse and freshness. Ready now and tasty for 5+ years.
For You If: You’re after the generous fruit and flesh Zinfandel is known for in a sleek and almost too easy to drink package; you especially enjoy a sense of freshness with your big, black, Zinny fruit.
Not For You If: You’re looking for subtle and/or earthy – this is big, bold, brassy and all about the juicy black fruit.
"Dynamic and generous, this Zin combines old-school briar with sleek suppleness, serving up stylish flavors of raspberry and cherry accented by savory pepper, cinnamon and garrigue tones that sail on the rich finish."
