If you’re looking for subtlety, grace and restraint…this ain’t that. Instead it’s the kind of gutsy, chewy, bold red you get from old bush-vine Garnacha on the high plains of Spain with a splash of Syrah for more darkness and grip. Roasted strawberries, blackberry, old balsamic and a bit of bitter chocolate aromas and flavors flow on a palate that’s rich and ripe but not heavy or sweet. A lot of wine for the money for big food.
For You If: You’re looking for a wallop of flavor and texture and don’t mind a little chew of tannin at the end; you like Zinfandel and are ok with a bit more earthiness; you’re grilling lamb or dry-rubbed ribs.
Not For You If: You’re after something light and crisp; you don’t like any earthy notes in your big, bold, reds; you want a lot of oak flavor – there’s a touch here, but not much.
