Lower ABV From the massive tangle of vines in Aragon – think Calatayud, Campo de Borja – that gives us so many really yummy, surprisingly cheap, values. This is from Cariñena, the region named for it’s most common grape, aka Carignan in France. Not really white wine country, but they somehow crafted a winner here from 60% Garnacha Blanca and 40% Chardonnay with no oak but lots of lees stirring done under cover of nitrogen to prevent the Garnacha from turning brown and apple-juicy. It's full of apricot and cut stone and star fruit aromas and flavors with exotic whiffs of wild fennel and jasmine blossom and a finishing burst of refreshing, invigorating, Key lime juice. Feels generous at 13% alcohol and finishes with a mouthwatering ease. A lot of wine for the money.
For You If: You like Loire Valley Chenin Blanc – pithy, stony, really good if a bit hard to put your finger on exactly what you’re tasting; you like the mouthfeel of richer whites and the freshness and vibrancy of lower alcohol.
Not For You If: You’re after familiar flavors and textures; you want to taste oak aging; you’re turned off by the fact that our first tasting note from staff said, “smells a little like a new pencil eraser, but in a good way!”
"A fun white with lots of refreshing aromatics. Lots of peaches and green apples here with hints of white blossom and lime, too. A fresh, full-bodied yet elegant expression from a smart blend of garnacha blanca and chardonnay. Some peach skin in the finish. Vegan. Drink now."
