Lower ABV It’s so tempting to call this “baby Puligny Montrachet” that…well, what the heck. It’s baby Puligny Montrachet from a trio of vineyards that all abut the village AOC boundary. Like his Puligny, Sylvain Bzikot farms these plots (all less than a 10 minute walk from his home) with care, harvests by hand, and ferments and ages the wine in a mixture of steel (for freshness) and French oak (for roundness and spice).
In 2021, there’s an immediacy to the aromas and delicious flavors of baked pear, spiced apple, buttered hazelnut, and ripe citrus. A dusting of chalky minerality and core of fine acids keeps things fresh and vibrant through the generous buttered-hazelnut and orchard fruit finish. At once classy and friendly, it's already a great house white and will keep improving through 2028.
For You If: You love Burgundy Chardonnay and want to enjoy a terrific one for <$30; you enjoy Chardonnay from cooler USA regions like the Willamette Valley or true Sonoma Coast and, again, want to drink something great in that style for <$30.
Not For You If: You’re looking for a lot of overt oak flavors – the impact is pretty subtle here – or the kind of super-ripe fruit and assertive butter flavors more common from California Chardonnays.
"Such an inviting aroma of delicate, creamy citrus. Impressive depth on a Bourgogne Côte d'Or. Plenty of fragrant fruit, rounded texture and a long, mouth-watering finish."
