Lower ABV After phylloxera, the vineyards here were abandoned and were gradually covered in trees until a storm blew through and uprooted them in 1973. Bordeaux legend Andre Lurton happened to walk through the destruction and noticed that the soil under the fallen trees was full of gravel - making it perfect for vines. He bought the property, replanted it, and has been making one of Bordeaux's under-the-radar value whites ever since.
It's 100% Sauvignon Blanc with part fermented and aged in barrel for more roundness and subtle spice. It shows a generous richness in texture balanced by crisp white-fleshed citrus and stone fruit notes and a smoky, spicy, finish. Grilled fish makes the obvious complement, but anything with lots of soft herbs or with a tang of goat cheese will pair up beautifully.
For You If: You like the smoky/stony character of white Bordeaux that’s seen a touch of oak; you want the citrus flavors of Sauvignon Blanc married to savory accents.
Not For You If: You’re after overt oak flavors – they are subtle here – or the wild tropical fruit flavors of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc..
