Organic/Bio Lower ABV Fabrice Closset and Valérie Closset-Gaziaux grew up in households dedicated to organic and biodynamic farming, studied soil science, helped introduce organic farming to communities in Africa, and then returned to France to help Loire Valley growers improve their farming, too. In 2008 they decided to try working their own land, purchasing a small estate in Gevigey, Jura and converting it to biodynamics. They've been so influential there that Valérie was elected head of the Jura AOC - just in time to help her colleagues and friends navigate the disastrous 2021 frosts.
With all of that going on plus making their widely respected Jura Pinot Noir, Chardonnay-Savagnin blends and delicious sparkling wines, it's hard to believe they've had time to take up something new. But here that is, a tiny production red Trousseau (which, formerly, they used only in their sparkling wines). And, wow, is it ever good.
Trousseau is known for it's cherry red color, deep raspberry/cherry fruit, and a definite "forest floor" sense of woodsy earthiness. All here, along with a bite of pomegranate and lovely accents of violets and rose petals and super-fine tannins. It's also known for big alcohol content, which is definitely NOT here in a wine of excellent richness and presence at just 10.5% abv. The lingering forest/fruit/earth finish is a thing of true beauty. Very little made and less imported. Excellent.
