Grown just north and east of Napa, most Lake County Cabernet Sauvignon ends up as part of the allowable 20% of non-AVA fruit in “Napa” Cabernet. Here it shines mostly solo as the main component in this delicious, ripe, Cab value. Picked ripe and aged 15 months in 45% new French oak, it’s full of dark blackberry and plum fruit with accents of cassis and cured tobacco and a dusting of cocoa powder flavors and tannins. Good steak wine that’s easy to sip solo, too.

For You If:   You enjoy classic Napa Cabernet flavors and mouthfeel but are often disappointed by sub-$30 Napa options (we are!); you like ripe Cab fruit balanced by a bit of grip from dusty tannins that melt away nicely with food.

Not For You If:   You’re looking for the velvet mouthfeel and silky tannins of $75 Napa Cabernet; you’re after a “smooth” finish – this leaves a nice dryness lingering behind.
