A spicy, floral, hugely long 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from Corliss's large holdings on Red Mountain in the Columbia Valley. As always, powerful and able to age for years, but also showing the immediate deliciousness a wine like this gets from 20 months in 50% new French oak and extra time in bottle before release.
For You If: You enjoy the lushness of Napa Cabernet and are looking for that mouthfeel with a more lifted, pure, fruit and flavor profile; you enjoy the spice and wild herb notes Cabernet Franc brings to a high-end blend like this.
Not For You If: You're looking for Bordeaux - for all it's purity and refinement, this is very much centered on rich, ripe, Red Mountain fruit.
"The 2018 Corliss Red Wine is also all from Red Mountain but is equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It's another thrilling wine offering pure cassis and ripe cherry fruits, notes of spring flowers, tobacco, and damp earth, medium to full body, ripe, building tannins, and flawless balance. Brilliant any way you look at it, it will benefit from 3-4 years (at least) of bottle age and should keep for two decades. It's up with the crème de la crème of the vintage – and the state."
"The 2018 Red Wine is vividly fresh and floral, with pretty rose tones and spices complementing dusty black cherries. Soft and supple, this comes across vibrant and energetic, with juicy acidity, crisp red fruits and hints of orange zest. It finishes with a coating of fine-grained tannins and an airy inner freshness, leaving nuances of spice and florals that linger unbelievably long. Gorgeous structure and length, plus the move toward freshness by the current winemaking team, make the 2018 shine bright."
