Organic/Bio Lower ABV Jeremie Huchet is making some of the most exciting wines in the western Loire region of Muscadet, including this generous example from vineyards on a hill overlooking the Maine River. It’s from organically grown grapes that average 45 years of age (the youngest were planted by Jeremie’s grandfather, Constant, 30 years ago) growing on prized “Chateau-Thebaud” granite soils that make up only 4% of the entire Muscadet vineyard. The wine ferments in stainless steel to lock in freshness and flavor and then ages on the dead yeast cells (“sur lie”) for around 9 months to soften slightly and gain even more complexity.
The wine is nearly as boisterous and energetic as Jeremie, bursting with green lime, green melon and Granny Smith apple fruit with just a hint of ripe apricot. It's light, but nicely textured, with a beam of minerality that runs through the bold flavors and picks up a salty feel on the mouthwatering finish. You’ll love how it’s wonderfully energetic and refreshing without being austere or hard-edged at all. Great with oysters, of course, but really just a lovely, refreshing, all-purpose white.
For You If: You like salty, minerally, wines with good fruit that are definitely not "fruity"; you're after a wine that will refresh while the oysters are being shucked as much as while they're being slurped.
Not For You If: You're after something full-bodied, dense or oak - this has plenty of presence on the palate, but stays light and a little steely.
