From a tiny, half-acre, plot of Chardonnay in the Beaune 1er Reversees 1er Cru just up the hill to the west of Beaune, this is the only white wine bottled from this mainly red wine vineyard. Farming here is certified organic and the wine fermented and aged about 14 months in 25% new French oak. It's both nicely ripe and wonderfully vivid and fresh white Burgundy. It smells great, with pure and lifted aromas of ripe peach, fresh cream, tangy butter, fresh mint and just a hint of minerality. Long and lovely on the palate with more ripe yellow stone fruit framed by notes of buttered hazelnut and lifted by juicy, lemon/lime, acidity. Finishes with fine persistence and freshness. Delicious now (especially with a decant) and best from 2025.
As Mark writes, “this wine pairs beautifully with mild fishes, such as halibut, salmon, or cod, or simply prepared chicken or quail as well as with quince or vegetable tarts, mushroom souffles, and mild cheeses such as Brie, Morbier, or Cantal.” Just 1,200 bottles made.
For You If: You’re after a generous but still nicely mineral Burgundy Chardonnay with loads of texture and a snappy, brisk, finish.
Not For You If: You don’t like smoky/mineral notes in your Chardonnay – they’re featured here in a way we love!
