Organic/Bio The little village of Visan in the middle of the Cotes du Rhone always seems to give wines with a sleek black fruit and a hint of something we might call “ink” (but in a good way – really!). The blend of organically grown Syrah (60%), Carignan (20%) and Grenache (20%) has even more heft and density than usual and still stays silky in feel. The pinch of black pepper and dark chocolate invite matching up with meats and veggie dishes laced with Provençal herb or black olives.
For You If: You’re after some density and volume in your winter/cookout red; “peppery” sounds good to you; you like the combination of big and silky.
Not For You If: You’re after delicacy and finesse – this is a bit in your face; you prefer the rich red fruit of Grenache-dominant Rhone reds to the darker blue/black fruit of Syrah and Carignan.
