Organic/Bio Lower ABV The region is obscure but the wine delicious! Champlitte’s vines grow about halfway between Jura and Champagne, about 1.5 hours drive east from Beaune. Before phylloxera and WWI, the region was big and important for wine, but now is beginning to regain a bit of fame for nervy, racy, wines that excite the senses without wiping out the wallet.
Like here. This is 100% Pinot Noir grown on what is probably Champlitte’s best vineyard, the south-facing hill of La Paturie. Organic farming gives lovely ripeness at just 12.0% alcohol and simple winemaking locks in all that delicious flavor. Sweet red cherry and strawberry fruit takes center stage with a base note of damp earth and hints of varietal smoke. It’s silky and fluid in the mouth, finishing with a big burst of ripe raspberry and notes of spice and fresh flowers. You can give this a chill if you like or drink at cellar temperatures for more gushing fruit.
