Organic/Bio "So drinkable" says the review, and that sums it up beautifully. It's a blend of 40% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, and 15% each of Carignan and Syrah, all grown organically on the steeply sloped vineyards of the Southern Rhone’s Rasteau, just north of Chateauneuf du Pape. Winemaker Julie Paolucci’s goal is to make a wine that tastes like “Rasteau” – so gutsy and full of blue/black fruit and some crushed stone minerality – but that wouldn’t overwhelm food or require time in cellar to enjoy. She picks ripe, not overripe, and ages the Syrah and Mourvedre in old oak and the rest of the wine in concrete.
The "mixed blacks" of the blend nicely balance Grenache's flamboyant ripeness with savory notes of cracked pepper, potpourri, cured meat and purple flowers. There’s plenty of concentration and spine here and more than enough generous black cherry and raspberry fruit to balance the more savory elements. Deliciously drinkable solo and great with all kinds of foods. Excellent value, too.
"Beautifully expressive aromas of strawberry and black cherry. Light- to medium-bodied for a Rasteau, with great freshness and precision, no heaviness or excess alcohol. Very fine tannins. So drinkable."
