While it’s hardly cheap, this is the most under-priced Sancerre in the shop and you should get some before the family wakes up to what they should be charging! From one of the finest caillottes (clay/limestone pebbles) plots in Sancerre and 30+ year-old vines, this shows glorious levels of concentration and texture with crushed limestone and gunflint minerality on the finish. Done all in 600l oak casks that you cannot taste at all. Really brilliant.
For You If: You want to drink what should be $50+ Sancerre for less; you like your Sancerre to be like white Burgundy: ripe fruit showing behind the minerality and cut; you’re exploring Sancerre terroir and don’t know Chen Marchand yet – you should!
Not For You If: You want either overt oak flavors – vanilla, toast – or the fruit intensity and purity of a no-oak cuvee; you prefer your Sancerre to walk up, slap you on the back, and shove a glass right into your hand – this is a bit more subtle and restrained that that if no less flavorful and yummy.
