Tucked in among Loire River tributaries, the Chenin Blanc vineyards of Coeaux du Layon see autumn morning fog followed by sunny afternoons – the perfect conditions for botrytis and great sweet wines. Here the shriveled grapes age entirely in steel and bottle, delivering a thick, unctuous, texture and gobs of candied pineapple, mango, papaya and honey aromas and flavors. A lovely match for sweets and, better still, bleu cheeses.
For You If: You’re looking for the perfect bottle to crack open with bleu cheese and dried fruit and some nuts and enjoy with friends on a sunny afternoon or after a leisurely dinner.
Not For You If: You really, really, don’t like sweet wines; you want the spice and vanilla notes of oak or the nuttiness of long-aged wines like Tawny Port.
