This is Libero Rillo's “fresh” Falanghina, going from vine to stainless steel to bottle with no oak and just a touch of time on the lees (spent yeast cells) to amplify the texture without diminishing the wine’s boisterous fruit. For such simple winemaking, there’s so much going on here! The note from Vinous is hard to beat: “lifts from the glass with a lovely blend of chamomile, wildflowers and freshly sliced nectarines. This washes across the palate with silken textures and ripe orchard fruits as hints of candied lime add contrast.
Juicy acidity keeps the energy high, while sour citrus tones keep the mouth watering for more. Saline minerality adds a tactile feel through the finish.” No wonder it earned Italy’s highest wine honor, Tre Bicchieri, for the 9th time in the past dozen years! And no wonder it’s always one of our best-selling Italian whites every year. Don’t miss the special savings while they last!
For You If: You enjoy other refreshing whites like Pinot Grigio, Verdicchio, Verdejo, Albarino, etc; you love the minerality of Sancerre and Chablis and want that in a more intensely flavorful package; you’re looking for the perfect white for seafood pasta and/or Pizza Margherita – this was born for that!
Not For You If: You’re in the mood for a quiet, restrained, white – this is pretty exuberant; you’re after the toasty oak spice and vanilla of a barrel-aged wine – this is done all in tank.
