Organic/Bio Lower ABV A ”serious” Nouveau for times when you want to get in touch with your wild child, the kid who might sneak into a neighbor’s yard, pluck dead-ripe plums, and then eat them rapaciously until, covered in sticky juice, you got sleepy in the afternoon heat. This is what happens when you pick stunningly ripe Gamay from 40-60 year-old vines, ferment it like Burgundy instead of Beaujolais, and when it’s done, pull about 20% of the young wine out of your regular aging program and label it “Nouveau.” Zowie, is it ever good and gulpable and enlivening and joyful and did we mention good?
For You If: You love real fruit – the stuff that gets picked off vines and trees and eaten by the people who grew it right then and there; you’re after a red fruity enough to please non-red wine drinkers and red winey enough for you; you’ve always wondered if it’s possible to make good Nouveau.
Not For You If: You’re in the wine game for something other than fruit – there’s a bit of granite minerality and stem spice here, but fruit’s the name of the game; you want firm tannins or the flavor of oak; you’re in a grumpy mood and want to stay that way so you’d definitely not want to try this because it’s almost 100% guaranteed to cheer you up and that would just ruin things.
