When the folks who own Napa’s Screaming Eagle launched Jonata on California’s Central coast, we knew the wines would be good. And mostly expensive.  So for $60, their Syrah-based Todos blend has always been the gateway value to the line-up. And the 2019 steps up even further. It’s delicious, with plenty of body, outstanding fruit, balancing tension and that classic French “garrigue” character for extra savory interest.   The 96 and 97 point reviews are spot on.  The only thing we’d add is that the wine is delicious now, very food-friendly, and will drink nicely for the next 6-7 years. Maybe longer – but who’s going to wait?

For You If:  You love the combination of ripe California fruit and savory accents that Syrah-based Rhone Ranger reds deliver; you're after a wine that's big on flavor but still nicely balanced and food-friendly.

Not For You If:   You're in the mood for the plush/velvet feeling of a Napa Cab or the more stark minerality of a Northern Rhone Syrah - this sits in between.

Wine Enthusiast: 97 Points

“Winemaker Matt Dees is considered one of the best winemakers anywhere, and this blend is ample reason to believe the hype. Intense, focused and dry but rich aromas of dark fruit, roasted wood, crushed rocks and wild herb enliven the nose, while the palate is weighty yet expertly tense. Flavors of dried red fruit, peppery spice and milk chocolate float into the finish.”

James Suckling: 96 Points

“The black berry character dominates here but there is plenty of crushed stones as well as orange peel. It’s full-bodied yet so refined and gorgeous. Subtle and complex flavors of fruit and dark earth. Creamy textured tannins. A blend of 48% syrah, 26% cabernet sauvignon, 10% petite sirah, 9% merlot, 2% sangiovese and 2% of other grapes. Some co-fermentation. Drink or hold.”
