A terrific, all-season, cookout and casual meal red at a great value price. This is 100% Tempranillo from the famed vineyards of Ribera del Duero (think Pesquera, Vega Sicilia, etc.). Ripe fruit grown at altitude (3,000 feet) shows classic Tempranillo notes of blackberry, sandalwood, blood orange and plum and gets more complexity and spice from six months in French and American oak. As Wine Enthusiast says in the 90 point write-up, "This dark violet-colored wine has a nose of cherry pie and mocha. It is soft on entry, offering lightweight tannins and black cherry, pomegranate, milk chocolate, violet and baking spice flavors that culminate in a vivid, fruit-filled finish."
For You If: You're looking for lots of red wine flavor - dark fruit, chocolate, spice - and velvet texture without heaviness or excess grip.
Not For You If: You're looking to be beaten over the head with oak flavors or to taste no wood at all - this delivers an attractive note of spice and smoke that's well integrated with the rich fruit.
