A classic Rioja blend of Tempranillo with Graciano and Graciano picked freshly ripe and aged in cask. The red fruit and sweet spice are both attractive here, as is the layer of smoky complexity from the time in barrel. Feels soft and plush mid-palate before a squirt of acidity and fine tannic grip drive the dry, spicy, finish. The oak and fruit are nicely balanced here - while it's clearly Rioja, the fruit sings through nicely. Ready now for sipping, lamb, beef, etc.
For You If: You're looking for a great deal on a wine with the heft to handle grilled/roasted flavors and the spice and fruit to invite solo sipping; you enjoy your ripe red fruit framed by the flavors of classic oak barrel aging.
Not For You If: You're after plushness or deep black fruit or dislike the aromas and flavors of spicy oak - this is fresh, more red-fruited, and shows off Rioja's traditional oak treatment nicely.
