A steak-ready Rioja that’s plump and dark with plenty of spicy intensity and a nice level of grip at the end. It’s Tempranillo with 15% Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo all aged in American oak, delivering both rich fruit and a classic Rioja style. As Suckling says in the 93 point review, “Lovely finesse and balance to this red, with berries, light vanilla and dried flowers. Medium body, creamy tannins and a bright finish.”
For You If: You like the spice and tobacco notes of Rioja paired with good, solid, fruit and want enough grip to match up with grilled/roasted beef and lamb.
Not For You If: You’re after the lower fruit levels and stronger American oak profile of older, even more “traditional” Rioja – this is unmistakably Rioja but with more richness and fruit than some.
