This dry Auslese Riesling comes from deep grey slate on a super steep, south-facing, slope. The 2018 “two star” bottling is, as Wine Advocate says in the 95+ point review, “pure, precise and flinty on the nose with intense and concentrated fruit aromas and refreshing phenolic notes that will oxidize with aeration during bottle aging. On the palate, this is a rich and intense, crystalline, vital and persistent Riesling with great expression and elegance. The finish is spectacularly long and fine. An impressive wine.”

For You If:   You want to taste how Mosel’s slate soils give wines if tremendous cut and energy even in warm, dry, years like 2018; you’re looking for a conversation-stopper – this is that good.

Not For You If:   You’re after off-dry or fruity Riesling – this is stony, salty and dry.
