One of the best buys in Mt. Etna red we’ve seen in a while – and not just because it tastes so good. The ripe strawberry and tart cherry fruit shine brightly through Etna Nerello Mascalese’s signature smoky spice notes and cloak the firm tannins beautifully. The quality make sense once you know it’s from younger vines in the prime Calderara Sottana cru. You can certainly give this a chill for a hot day and it’s better still at normal temps. Big YUM.
For You If: You enjoy Etna reds and want a good one at a drink-anytime price; you’re looking for a chillable red with loads of character to enjoy now and with the quality to shine after summer’s heat is gone, too; you used to enjoy Chianti before it got so big and muscular – flavors are a little different here, but this is a great pizza/pasta red.
Not For You If: You like your reds really smooth and easy – this is hardly harsh/hard but the juicy acids and grainy tannins are part of the fun here.
