The "value" label for Matthews is a great source of stylish wine at equally satisfying prices. The backbone of this Bordeaux blend is from Royal Slope, a relatively cool and (wait for it) sloped region in the middle of the broader Columbia Valley AVA. Ripe fruit and firm tannins get polish and spice from time in 25% new French oak. Excellent wine for steak, lamb, burgers, etc.

"Aromas of ripe mulberries and blueberries with chocolate, citrus peel and violet fragrance to it. Medium- to full-bodied, mellow and delicious with vivid blue-fruited character, crunchy tannins and a spiced, chalky finish. 63% cabernet sauvignon, 34% merlot and 3% petit verdot."
