A fun contrast to the Meyers Spitfire, this is also from Oakville but done entirely in French oak (60% new). A lovely sense of spice and wild herb here. As Wine Enthusiast says in the 93 point review, “Delicious red and black fruits and dark chocolate mingle with light smoky, toasty, black-pepper accents in this full-bodied, firmly structured wine. It gets better with each sip, revealing more depth of fruit and a velvety texture.
For You If: You’re looking for that classic Oakville Cab profile of black fruit, dark chocolate and firm tannins at a very good price for the quality and style of the wine.
Not For You If: You’re after either the fatter/rounder style of Cab from places like Paso or the super-intense tannins of Howell Mountain – otherwise, if you like Napa Cab, this is a winner.
