Pinot Nero (or Blauburgunder as it’s called here) takes advantage of cool Dolomite mountain nights (expected) and Alto Adige’s sunny, almost hot, summer days (not so expected). Here it gives a wine full of ripe, sweet, cherry and strawberry fruit with spicy herbal accents and hints of fresh violets through the supple, juicy, close. As Vinous said of last year’s release, “This is a pure, no-frills Pinot Noir at its best.”
For You If: You love the flavor of Pinot Noir fruit presented without any oak influence; you’re looking for a crowd-pleasing, all-purpose, red that’s worth paying attention to when you feel like doing that; you’re after a wine that feels silky and supple.
Not For You If: You want the minerality of Burgundy or darker, riper, fruit character of California and Oregon wines – this is “friendly” Pinot Noir that offers effortless enjoyment.
