Organic/Bio Jim Anderson began bottling this wine in 2005 so customers could more clearly taste the difference between Pinot from the Willamette Valley's marine sedimentary and volcanic soils. Today it's 25 barrels from four Ribbon Ridge and four Chehalem Mountain sites and is about half Wadensvil clone, a quarter Pommard and the rest Dijon 114, Coury and Mariafeld clones. A portion of the wine saw time in second-use barrels but most was in neutral wood.
The Vinous 93 point review captures it nicely, "The 2022 Pinot Noir Marine Sedimentary unfurls in the glass with a pretty blend of dusty earth, rose petals and dried strawberries. This seduces with soft textures and vividly ripe wild berry fruits, all guided by a stream of tantalizing acidity. Saine minerality defines the finish as a coating of fine-grained tannins clenches the senses, leaving a licorice tinge to linger on." Delicious now and for a decade-plus.
For You If: You love the fresh black fruit and minerality of sedimentary soil Pinot Nor where the oak shapes, but doesn't flavor, the wine; you like a little snap in your nicely ripe West Coast Pinot Noir.
Not For You If: You're looking for lush/plush texture - the whole clusters and mineralty give this a pleasing, shapely, grip.
