Lower ABV Since 1949, the Picollo family has grown grapes in just one place - the Piemonte's Gavi region - and made just three wines: Gavi, Gavi di Gavi, and a barrel-aged Gavi di Gavi. With that much practice and focus, it's hardly surprising they made a terrific Gavi DOCG even in the challenging 2023 vintage.
The aromas of sweet lemon, firm honeydew melon, apricot, chive and citrus blossom really jump out of the glass. The flavors and intense and compelling, with bold notes of lemon, lime, tangerine and melon that get energy and drive from the racy, fresh, acids. A lick of chalk gives a mineral edge to the very, very, long finish that leaves your mouthwatering over the lingering lemon, citrus blossom and fresh apricot flavors. The cut and verve make this an excellent match for shellfish, ceviche, and any kind of fried food, but there’s enough body (at just 12.5% alcohol) to keep things equally appealing on pop-and-pour just because you’re thirsty. You'll want to have a bottle chilled and ready for thirst-quenching sharing all year long!
For You If: You’re after the perfect refrigerator white – the wine you keep chilled at all times for white wine craving emergencies; descriptors like “crisp,” “zesty,” “dry,” and/or “mouthwatering” make your mouth, well, water; you enjoy Sauvignon Blanc and are looking for that kind of zing without the grapefruit.
Not For You If: You’re looking for rich or “heavy” whites – this is super-flavorful but light and crisp; you’re after something oaky – nothing but steel and fruit here.
