Organic/Bio Here’s proof that great farming and straight-ahead winemaking can deliver fine Chianti – and even finer value! – from outside the Classico zone. More and more Chianti is either all Sangiovese or Sangiovese strengthened with dollops of Cabernet or Syrah. Here, a family dedicated to natural, organic, farming turns back to Tuscan tradition to make Chianti from an old-school blend of grapes: Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino and Ciliegiolo. Sangiovese gives the wine heft and structure, while Canaiolo adds volume, Colorino deepens the color, and Ciliegiolo – Sangiovese’s genetic parent – soft red cherry fruit.
Ripe black and red cherry fruit forms the wine’s core and gains interest and complexity from accents of crushed violets, red licorice, rich earth, and sweet spice accents. There’s no oak influence at all, allowing the ripe fruit to shine through while retaining outstanding freshness and just the right touch of structure at the end. A fine party Chianti, for sure, and one that will be as much fun to drink with a big bowl of pasta as with burgers or rosemary-scented pork.
