Lower ABV The Steininger family is best known here for their terrific Grüner Veltiner and Riesling, but in Austria they are famed for their fizz. Karl Steininger first planted Cabernet Sauvignon in his Kamptal vineyards planning to use it in sparkling wine, but it makes an even more distinctively delicious still rosé! As Eva Steininger explained, “In Austria, there are hundreds of Zweigelt Rosés. But there are only two from Cabernet Sauvignon. And ours is the best!”
The 2024 edition smells great and is delicious, too. Ripe red currant, strawberry and elderberry fruit holds center stage with confidence while a chorus of rubbed summer herbs and powdered orange peel adds bite and interest. Although it’s wonderfully brisk and light, there’s real substance to the texture and the flavors stay deep and pure through a long, dry, mouthwatering, finish. That’s it’s one of the prettiest rosés you'll see in the glass is an extra bonus! The perfect antidote to late summer heat and humidity and a fabulous value as well.
For You If: You like your rose to be a little extra zesty/dry and to show a whiff of fresh herb to go with the tart red fruit.
Not For You If: You're looking for something soft and fruity - this is more dry/crisp and while not quite tart, definitely not sweet or fruity.
