Charles Smith is the wild man of Washington wine, best known for his K Vintners Rhone-style wines and increasingly for the Wines of Substance line covering the rest of the wine world. Here he blends Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with splashes of Malbec and Sangiovese to create a juicy, fruit-filled, red with subtle accents of spice and leather. As Jeb Dunnuck says in the 90-92 point review, “and it's medium to full-bodied, with a beautifully layered mouthfeel, fine tannins, and great finish.”
For You If: You or your guests enjoy fruit-filled, easygoing, American red blends that have plenty of volume and presence and finish dry; you’re looking for a fun match for pizza or burgers loaded with spicy and savory toppings.
Not For You If: You’re looking for subtly, minerality or finesse – this is a big, bold, frankly fruited American red that cares more about being delicious than impressing with elegant style.
