Lower ABV Marlborough Pinot Gris really ought to be a “thing,” but gets pushed aside by more commercially successful Sauvignon. As this easygoing example shows, Pinot Gris deserves more attention! Pretty crisp pear and sliced apple fruit gets a bit of citrusy lift and complexity from a hint of varietal spice. There’s enough texture to stand up to sausages and poultry, and enough fruit and freshness for solo sipping. Understated but compelling at just 12.5% alcohol.
For You If: You like the flavors of Pinot Gris and want something less assertively acidic than Pinot Grigio and more dry and less dense than Alsace Pinot Gris; you’re having a salad with toasted walnuts and a sprinkle of blue cheese.
Not For You If: You’re looking for a wine that shouts, “look at me!” – this is more restrained and gentle if certainly not lacking in flavor and interest.
"A delicious dry pinot gris with sliced green apple and crushed stone. Some white pepper. Medium body. Crisp and fresh, yet lightly oily. Sustainable."
