One of the finest values in the shop right now is this “Superiore” Barbera from the heart of Piemonte and aged 12 months in oak. It’s medium-bodied, bursting with ripe and red cherry fruit and lifted by a tiny hint of green peach crunch and juicy cherry acids. The wood gives the wine just a touch of tannin for support vs any overt flavors. What a great anything-on-the-table and lets-have-fun-at-a party red!
For You If: You’re looking for one wine to enjoy with burgers, pizza, curry or pork chops – this one does it all; you want Italian wine character without any biting acids or tannins – this has structure, but it’s easy and supple.
Not For You If: You’re after the kind of super-concentrated Barbera that needs a lash of new oak to tame and shape it – this is just easier and more relaxed than that.
