A relatively new winery (first vintage 2014) from a family with 100+ years on Etna, the Tornetore style runs less extracted and powerful than most, but still very delicious! This is from Contrada Trimarchisa, on the lowest slopes of Etna and on a mixture of volcanic and alluvial soils from near the river. In a difficult vintage, the wine has lovely freshness and purity of fruit and a supple, easy, feel.

"The 2018 Etna Rosso Trimarchisa entices, pulling me close with a mix of dusty black cherries, dried roses, lavender and hints of ash. It’s soft-textured with a flourish of vivid, sweet red fruits and a salty core of minerality that adds lovely contrast. In style with the vintage, this is more lifted and juicy than readers might expect; yet even still, the Trimarchisa impresses with its depth and harmony, tapering off long yet only lightly structured while leaving hints of sweet rose and violets to linger. The 2018 may not be an Etna Rosso for the ages, yet it should be nothing short of stunning over the next three to five years.”
