“Chianti DOCG” can be a bit hit or miss – there’s a reason these vines aren’t in the “Classico” zone, but when it hits, the value is huge. Like here in a blend of Sangiovese and Canaiolo given a couple of years in (what we suppose to be) large, old, oak casks. You’ll smell dark fruit and a bit of earthy cured tobacco on the nose and then be delighted with the plump, rich, texture, fine grip, and long and earthy finish. This is Chianti for steak or lamb or a meat-rich pasta sauce, although sausage pizza would certainly work too!
For You If: You’re looking for a red with a bit of an “aged” feel and also still pumping out the ripe black cherry/berry fruit and finishing firm and lightly grippy.
Not For You If: You’re all about the fresh fruit or are looking for smooth – this is dark, a touch earthy and finishes firm.
