Lower ABV I’d tell you this is better than Aubert de Villaine Bouzeron in a great vintage…but who knew the owner of Romanee-Conti makes Aligote on the side? Or knew one of Oregon’s premier Chardonnay/Pinot estates started doing the same in 2019? Not me, but tasting this pretty revelatory. From a tiny planting in the Eola Hills and with 10 months in barrel, it’s a mouthwatering, lemon pulp and rind, stony, mouthwateringly salty, crazy long on the finish delight. Around 70 cases made, so snag one right now.
For You If: You like great Aligote that’s more at home at table than as a cocktail Kir; you’re a fan of salty, minerally, wines like great Muscadet, Albarino, Savoy whites, even top-notch Sancerre.
Not For You If: You’re looking for lots of fruit – this is about the rocks – or overt wood flavors.
