Lower ABV Cornas has the reputation as one of the more austere, strict, Syrahs of the Northern Rhone, but if there’s such a thing as “fun Cornas,” this is it. From three plots, partially destemmed and aged in used barrique, it’s bursting with intense blueberry/blackberry fruit and framed by savory campfire and sweet violet accents. The finish is HUGE, long and attractively firm and if you had a bottle of this and a slab of lamb…well, we know how your night would end. Is it going to get better, meatier and more sophisticated over the next 10 years?  Sure. Are we going to wait that long to drink it?  Nope.

For You If:   You’re willing to splurge a bit to get a taste of very high-end northern Rhone Syrah that you can appreciate and share right now; you’re having lamb, because this is going to explode with that pairing.

Not For You If:   You’re after either a super-ripe fruit/oak profile or an austere mouthful of dirt and granite – this is more balanced and open and crunch fruit driven.
