As grapes come into the winery, Luis Canas inspects each bunch from his best vineyards and sets aside the most beautifully ripe for this wine. It's around 95% Temparnillo and 5% Graciano and ages 24 months in new oak (70/30 French/American) and 36 more in bottle before release. It’s delicious with lovely ripe black fruit, sweet oak spice, and a fine, firm, tannic clinch on the beef and lamb-friendly finish. Good stuff.
For You If: You're after a hearty, black-fruited, Rioja with enough oak for spice and shape but not so much it crushes the fruit; you're looking for steak/lamb wine and want a chance from Napa Cabernet's overwhelming currant fruit.
Not For You If: You don't like a good dose of oak with your richly fruited reds - this is Rioja after all, and the barrel influence is part of the story!
