If there’s a more delicious, run, robust red in the shop for the money right now…well, there isn’t. This is around 85% Monestrell (aka Mourvedre) and 15% Syrah from the high, hot, plains of Jumilla, Spain. Big, big, BIG blackberry and dark plum fruit with just enough rich and loamy earth and superfine tannins to give the whole thing shape and complexity. Outstanding burger and pizza wine and will be especially great with earthier fare like mushrooms or lamb. Finishes soft and supple enough for solo sipping, too. Seriously good value wine.
For You If: You normally drink <$20 Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec or Spanish reds and want to take a bit step up in “yum” at a silly good price; you especially enjoy something more than just fruit in your reds.
Not For You If: You’re looking for lots of oak like you’d find in many Rioja – this is all about Mourvedre’s natural rich fruit and varietal earthy complexity.
