Organic/Bio Vincent Boyer has moved his old family estate to organic farming and now gives his wines two years elevage – one in 5-8 year-old barrel and a second in concrete egg. This wine, from sites in lower Meursault, is just textbook, with richness of fruit balanced by striking minerality. As Burghound says in the 89-91 point pre-bottling review, “There is good underlying tension and reasonable density to the attractively textured middleweight flavors that exude a more subtle bead of minerality on the balanced, clean and nicely dry finale.” There’s more to come as this grows in cellar, so don’t be afraid to decant for 30 minutes if you’re enjoying it now.
For You If: You love classic Meursault, meaning Chardonnay that has a bit of breadth and richness of fruit matched by definite chalk minerality.
Not For You If: You’re after a lot of oak or fat, sweet, fruit – the wood here is very subtle and the fruit ripe, but subtle.
