Lower ABV From northeast of Turin, on the road to Valtellina, this shows a mountain wine character in a blend of 75% Barbera and 25% Merlot done in steel. It’s cool and fresh with darkly ripe, still tangy, fruit like redcurrant and raspberry. The acidity is high but not harsh and sustains the ripe/tart flavors nicely over very fine tannins. Kind of an elevated pizza wine or, with a chill, a post mountain hike thirst-quencher.
For You If: You’re having pizza, especially with pepperoni/salami or lots of basil; you like Langhe Barbera and want that joyful fruit in a more red/fresh style.
Not For You If: You’re looking for a big, thick, oaky and/or intensely tannic red – this is juicy, fresh and easy at just 13.0% alcohol.
