The hills above Carcassonne enjoy full-on Languedoc sunshine and heat but also the kind of cool sea breezes that help shapes Bordeaux. The grapes are “Mediterranean” Grenache and Syrah and “Atlantic” Cabernet and Merlot, together here in roughly equal parts to create what feels like a sunny Bordeaux! Big blue/black fruit, a bit of something meaty/smoky, wild herb and a finely grippy finish just perfect for food. No oak, lots of flavor and fun.
For You If: You enjoy the style of good value Bordeaux but wish it had a bit more “ompf” in the middle; you like the “ompf” of a good value Cotes du Rhone but wish it had a little more style.
Not For You If: You’re after either classic Bordeaux or Cotes du Rhone flavors – this is a tasty mash-up of the two; you want the richness and polish of an oak-aged wine – this is all tank.
