Organic/Bio “Glau Glau.” That’s what you hear the natural wine kids say about a wine that’s made without any artifice or pretension that’s almost too easy to drink. Like this Grenache/Mourvedre blend from certified organic vines in an enclosed green area at the top of the villages of Visan and Saint-Maurice by Adrien Fabre. Picked by hand, fermented with native yeast, moved only by gravity (no pumps!), aged in big old oak casks and concrete amphorae, and bottled with just a touch of sulfur, this checks all the “natural wine” boxes. And then delivers clean, fresh, flavors of crunchy ripe berry fruit with a double handful of violets and a nicely grippy finish that anyone can enjoy. A treat.
For You If: You’d like to enjoy natural wine and have it clean and easy enough for your “non-natural” friends to help suck it down; you’re after the ripe raspberry fruit and earth of a Cotes du Rhone in a fresher, easier, style.
Not For You If: You’re after a lot of throw weight – this is 14% alcohol but drinks like 13% and not at all like the 15-16% big boys usually found in the southern Rhone these days.,
