Lower ABV When the owner of Romanee Conti says, “Hey, you should think about importing this guy’s wines,” you pay attention. Which is how Kermit Lynch connected with Gachot-Monot, a small estate just outside Nuits-St-George. This is from the heart of the estate’s vineyards and is pretty much the essence of both Burgundy Pinot Noir and the lovely 2022 vintage. Aromas of red cherry, blackberry, black tea and spice, a fleshy texture shaped by the vintage and time in oak (20% new) and a finish firm enough for food but with no austerity at all make this shockingly easy to drink. Flavors of sage and black pepper will match beautifully here – Thanksgiving Burgundy, anyone?
For You If: You enjoy really good Burgundy Pinot Noir and want one that delivers the minerality and finesse you hope for without costing the money or cellar time you’d expect; you enjoy Willamette Valley Pinot done with a light touch and want to try something from Burgundy with the same feel – if more minerality and grip.
Not For You If: You’re after something super light – this is solidly medium-bodied – or very earthy – this has a touch of underbrush, but is very pure and clean overall.
