Wildly complex, nicely ripe, perfectly balanced and ready to drink Gigondas for less than you’d expect to pay. There’s probably more Mourvedre here than strictly legal and certainly more of the deep earth, rose petal and pepper character that grape imparts than you’d normally find in Gigondas. As Vinous says in the 93 point rave, “Ripe red and dark berries, floral pastille and white pepper aromas show excellent detail and are complemented by garrigue and smoky mineral suggestions. Sweet, weighty and gently chewy in texture, the juicy raspberry, cherry, spicecake and lavender pastille flavors firm up steadily through the mid-palate.”
For You If: You love earthier, more floral, Rhone wines where the intense fruit is matched by minerality and garrigue; you’re after the perfect complement to most anything rubbed in Herbs de Provence.
Not For You If: You’re after the huge fruit and big flesh more common in Gigondas and Chateauneuf du Pape these days; you like wood spice and vanilla in your big reds – this has no oak.
“Deep, glistening ruby. Ripe red and dark berries, floral pastille and white pepper aromas show excellent detail and are complemented by garrigue and smoky mineral suggestions. Sweet, weighty and gently chewy in texture, the juicy raspberry, cherry, spicecake and lavender pastille flavors firm up steadily through the mid-palate. It clings with very good authority on the gently tannic finish and leaves succulent floral and herb notes behind. All whole clusters and no oak.”
