Vigneron and estate manager Edwige Thuille knows the estate's bread and butter are classic Languedoc varietals like Grenache and Carignan and popular international grapes like Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet. And she does a great job with all of those. But she's restless and curious and always looking to explore. Which is why she planted a few acres of Spain's Albarino and a row or two of Riesling a few years ago. And created this crazy delicious white that debuts with this blend in 2023.
It's around 75-80% Albarino with a dollop of Chardonnay for body and splash of Riesling for perfume and minerality. The Albarino shines through with the kid of green peach, Meyer lemon and crisp apple fruit you expect from the grape and loads of the salty minerality and crisp citrus and mouthwatering "pop" you'd hope for in a top Rias Baixas example. But the silky-smooth mouthfeel and touch of tangerine are utterly unique and completely compelling. A slammable, patio-pounder, white value that has enough going on to reward attention, too. And a great, great, price. Stock up!
For You If: You enjoy Rias Baixas Albarino or any slightly salty, not too citrusy, white with or without food.
Not For You If: You’re after the super-intense citrus and herb of Sauvignon Blanc or the oak spice of barrel aged Chardonnay.
