Organic/Bio For the second straight vintage, this is 100% a Cotes du Rhone in guts, volume, and amplitude plus something you seldom see in Southern Rhone reds: freshness. Jean T'Kint only makes one wine, this blend of mostly Grenache and some Syrah grown organically on the pebbly soils of Rousset-les-Vignes. The village is the northernmost extension of the Southern Rhone and lies on the south slope of the La Lance hills in the Pre-Alps. Cool air from the Alps locks in freshness; protection from the Mistrail gives ripeness; 60 year-old vines give depth and concentration.
As Jean T'Kint writes, the combination "provides a velvety wine with long notes of red fruits, cassis, black cherry and spicy blackberries." Five years from vintage, this is unfurling beautifully and delivers a wild combination of thirst-quenching vibrancy and luscious, rich, Rhone hedonistic fruit. It's too much fun to drink, so do be careful. Or have some friends on hand. But also some extra bottles. A revelation.
For You If: You enjoy the flavor of rich Southern Rhone reds but not so much the heavy mouth feel - this has oodles of dark fruit and volume but stays fresh-feeling from first to last.
Not For You If: You want a "heavy" red - this has those kinds of flavors, but reads a little lighter on the palate.
