These guys make just one wine, a Lodi blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Sirah and Merlot brought in rich and ripe at 13.5% alcohol and given plenty of French oak spice and toast. It’s richer and more ripe than the modest abv suggests, with gushing blackberry and black cherry jam fruit plus accents of cracked pepper, bacon fat, and plenty of spicy oak. The big fruit gives this a satisfying sweetness mid-palate but it finishes dry, oaky and lightly grippy. Cookout wine for sure.
For You If: You like your California reds fruit-forward, oaky and a with a bit of jam and paired up with spice-rubbed steak or juicy, saucy, smoked ribs; you’re after a kick-back, relax and enjoy bold red that finishes soft and spicy.
Not For You If: You’re looking for sophistication or restraint – this is pretty “in your face”! You want to taste California Cab – while it’s the dominant part of the blend, the fruit-filled Petit Sirah is the star of the show.
